USB

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

Update: I’ve just received this URL from a friend. Using 30 USB Ports, you can actually cook BBQ meat! OMG.

**********

In the past, USB ports used to be heavily used by notebook users. Personal Computers that used PS2 [not Play Station 2] to connect to printers, monitor, etc was considered upmarket at one point in time.

Then the plug-and-play USB technology took over the world quietly, and it has become the universal connection from port to port.

Okay, I may sound stupid at some point in time, but please note I’m not a tech-savvy person. Though some colleagues and friends think that I’m a gadget-girl. =P But you’ll be surprised how much of a technology-laggard I am. :D

Anyway, I do know that apart from computer peripherals, other things such as mobile phone charger, bluetooth earpiece charger, etc uses USB technology as well. So you can charge your beloved phones in the office/school without having to plug into any switch.

Fan
Then we have some smart people who came up with USB desktop fan…
Ingenious?!

Lamp
And desktop lamps powered by batteries OR USB power.

But the Ultimatum came about, when I saw this:
Cup_warmer
A USB-powered Cup Warmer!

It’s amazing how much power a USB port can generate. But I supposed you’ll tend to use more electricity this way, hehe. I was just kidding with my colleague the other day when I saw the cup warmer at a nearby stall…

"I wonder if that warmer can be improved, such that you can cook eggs/instant noodles on it!"

Haha. Very funny. -.-"

But I won’t be surprised they turn the electrical stoves/Microwave/other electrical appliances into USB-powered, though it’s too far-fetched and dangerous.

This tells you one thing:
People are getting more and more stuck to their computers.

Crushes, pimples, crushed pimples…

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Hmm. I somehow realised that I’ve grown old. No longer do I have crushes that make my heart flutter. Haha. All of my ex-es took a liking for me first. Except one of my ex, who used to be my biggest crush.

But thing is, I realised that I feel rather put off by him, when he started to send me messages again. Just a span of 3 years, people’s reception can go from ‘delight’ to ‘disgust’? Wonder.

On another note, I thought buses are supposed to increase their frequencies and shorten the intervals? How come I don’t see/feel anything?! They are still as crowded! If I’m not wrong, buses should legally have only 11 standing passengers, correct?

And what good is the flag early campaign when the buses don’t stop when you do so? I hate it when I’m the only person taking that bus, and the bus doesn’t stop for me despite me flagging for it EARLY. Idiotic.

Taking the initiative

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

Hmm. Somehow, I think that between friends, one should take initiative in doing things to keep the friendship going. I am not that proficient keeping in touch with everyone, just like anyone else. But I do believe, at the very least, there must be some initiative taken.

Hope this post doesn’t strike unhappiness or whatsoever, just something that sparked off [my thoughts] from a recent gathering request.

My friend initiated to do something together, and asked me to call along others as well, hence I tried to call others along too. Though the response wasn’t good [everyone’s busy with either exams/work or wanted to save money], but I still was OK to go for it.

Then I messaged my friend to change the venue since it’ll be more convenient for us, the next day, I followed up with a call, and was told that he/she doesn’t want to go ahead with the outing, since he/she had wanted to save money.

Sounds reasonable. I’m alright with that, seriously. Just that I had wished my friend would let me know earlier, either giving me a reply via SMS, or call, since he/she was the person to initiate the outing. I’m not upset about it, just a wee bit disappointed. Anyway, there might be other reasons why my friend didn’t reply, so let’s give him/her the benefit of the doubt. :) At least I found out early by calling up my friend.

Almost won $2.5k

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

Remember sometime in September, I took part in Superstar 2? My Dad bought 4D for my queue number at that point in time, but my new friend’s number [3299] came out instead.

Today, his colleagues asked him whether he wants to buy 4D. And since the other day, my 2 relatives came over and slept in the Master Bedroom. My mum and I were also sleeping there, and my Dad took my room instead, since he’s the only guy.

I pasted the queue number on my cupboard, so that was one of the two numbers he thought of, to buy.

The number came out on Saturday…

BUT HE BOUGHT THE 4D TODAY!! As he didn’t buy Saturday’s newspapers, and didn’t know about it. We could have won $2.5k. -.-"

Anyway, Dar and I joined my colleague [SL] for badminton. Initially I thought it was a small gathering, but thereafter nearly 70 people turned up! O_O We basically booked the whole court area at Clementi Sports Complex.

The people were made up of friends, and friends of friends, and etc. Quite interesting. Enjoyed myself quite a lot, and played quite a few games, and won one, if I’m not wrong. Hehe.

Maybe can post pictures here soon, once my colleague pass me the photos.

Haven’t really explore my new N73, which I bought it at $538. I’m broke. O_O Never read manual. Hehe. Monday blues!!

I killed my Nokia 3230

Don’t have the mood to blog properly. So string these sentences yourself.

I bought an ‘original’ casing from Yahoo auctions for my phone.
Cost: $21 [The $1 is for postage]
Sent on Tues morning.
Received on Friday evening.
Happiness is short-lived.
Previously found a website to disassemble my phone.
Dar bought a T6 star screw-driver for me.
Removed 4 screws successfully.
Last part of disassembly tutorial do not have pictures.
Overlooked the other 4 screws lying underneath LCD screen.
Accidentally damaged the motherboard [whatever you call that green board].
Phone could power on, but refuse to load into the main screen.
Darling came to my house, he pointed the 4 extra screws. =/
Stupidity has a price to pay for.
I didn’t buy this phone, but I quite like it for its compactness and features.
Cursed the designer of this phone, especially for the casing.
Cursed myself for being stupid.
Cried. =/
Excuse for a new phone.
Hate buying new phone.
Need to adapt again. Sigh.
Someday I’ll die of being stupid.

Top 10 most hated behaviour in MRT

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Hmm. Seems like I enjoy listing things. =D I’m sure those of you who commute daily in public transport, would puke blood and shake head at some of the behaviour people have. I don’t think driving your own car makes anything better, since traffic is not really smooth during peak hours in Singapore. But I’m sure some of these are what we might have sub-consciously committed as well.. =D

So here goes:
1. Kids who think that they are Tarzans. And that the grip poles, are tree trunks. And they swing from one pole trunk to another.

2. Leaning on the poles. It’s not much of a nuisance, until the train becomes crowded.

3. Giving up your seats to kids. Good deed, until the kid starts running around and wasting the seat in the first place.

4. Sprinters who run into the train cabins, only to stop right after they enter the cabins. Chances are, the people behind you might not have a chance to get into the train since you are blocking.

5. People with big bags. If they are not hand-carrying anything, isn’t it more considerate if you could just hand-carry your bags in a packed bus/train? I think carrying your bags on your shoulder or back wastes more space!

6. People who refuse to move to the back, even if their destination is one of the last few bus stops.

7. Talking loudly on the mobile. And worse still, talking to each other loudly when you’re 10cm away on the same bench. This is a behaviour I find highly amusing. You would somehow raise your voice when you couldn’t hear the other person. The other person did NOT mention that they cannot hear you.

8. Playing loud ringtones on the buses/trains. Do it at bus-stops, platforms, fine. But not in the bus/train itself. The enclosed area makes it irrating to hear your stupid LOUD ringtones.

9. Earpiece-hooking bags. You squeeze so close to the person resting against the panels, that part of your bag hooks their earpieces. And you walk on without noticing. Damn it. I was a victim today.

10. Guys with big balls. Or so they think. I don’t get why some guys need to open their legs so bloody big, that they take up almost 2 seats.

On another note, I finally bought what I’ve caught my eye on the other day! I’ve this weak spot for cute things, and more often than not, I’d tend to buy things that I don’t exactly NEED.

Like this thing here.

Okay, so this is a torch light using stored energy technology, such that you don’t need batteries. Considered cheap compared to retailing prices. $5.

And this! Say this thing reminds you of a dustbin, and I’ll slap your head! Haha, kidding. Nonetheless, it came across as one [dustbin] initially, but since I already have a dustbin, I’m not sure what I should use this for.

CUTE RIGHT?! Maybe I can put my little gadgets in there. Muwahaha.

I keep buying stuffs, with the mindset that it would beautify my new room [decoration]. BUT, it’s coming to 2 years since I last took over this room. Shit. I need to get my butt moving.
